The Restaurants A Big City Has To Offer

Dining out is one of life’s greatest pleasures. By paying a visit to a fine dining restaurant, you are able to get away from the humdrum routine of daily existence and step into a world of delicious taste sensations, crisp white table linen and the clink of crystal glasses. On the other hand, if you prefer to visit a family restaurant where the locals go, then it is possible to do this too. You may not be waited on hand and foot in the lap of luxury as is the case with a 5-star establishment but at least you will not have to cook the meal and then wash the dirty pots and dishes afterward. No matter what your preferences are, there will most likely be a place to suit you amongst the many restaurants Johannesburg has to offer.

When you start to investigate the wide variety of restaurants Johannesburg possesses, you will notice that they fall into different categories:

Chaophraya – Bringing Thai Food to Leeds

Named after the enormous river which runs through Thailand, Chaophraya in Leeds is one of three extremely high-end Thai food restaurants across the north of England, the other two being located in Manchester and Liverpool.

I have visited Chaophraya a number of times but my first visit was something of an event with a few friends to celebrate a birthday. We went on a Saturday night and the first thing you notice is how bustling the atmosphere is; with staff working very hard to meet the needs of their customers and with the constant scent and sizzles of oriental delicacies around you, you can always feel a buzz!

As with most restaurants of this calibre, the staff members are very friendly and welcoming. They are more than happy to go the extra mile to tend to your needs and act very quickly should anything go wrong. As for the food, it is simply incredible. For my starter I had pork ribs which were probably the best I had ever tasted – succulent meat falling off the bone, and lots of it too! For my main I had a classic Thai green curry with beef and a side of noodles. Again, this was extremely well cooked and delivered in a timely fashion.

There were a couple of negatives to dining at Chaophraya however. My biggest gripe is the prices – yes the food is absolutely fantastic but this is not somewhere you could go on a regular basis. You need to spend at least £8 just for an appetiser and with main courses costing up to £30, including drinks (£3+) and dessert this adds up to a hefty bill even if there are only two of you dining. Chaophraya is probably going to be reserved for special occasions (or the super rich!).

Meet Restaurant, The Best Argentinian Steakhouse on the Island of Malta

Nothing tastes better at Meet restaurant than Lomo ‘Maradona,’ a 300 g fillet steak with asparagus, king prawns & béarnaise sauce. Truly one of cows greatest gifts to mankind.

We went there on a sunny Sunday afternoon, recommended by a friend of ours. Meet restaurant is situated in St. Julian’s near the police station. We reserved a table outside on the terrace with a great view over Spinola bay, setting the bar for an excellent meal that was about to be served.

From the menu we chose the ‘Chorizo a la Parilla’, grilled spicy sausages served with a chimichurri dip as an appetizer. For the main course the wife ordered the fillet steak ‘Maradona’ and I the ‘Ojo de Bife’, a grilled Rib-eye steak of a massive 675 grams.

As the name already mentioned it is a steak house, so if you are not into red meat the menu is a bit limited.
